Our Programs

EMPOWERING CHILDREN, BUILDING FUTURES

Ag4Youth is a transformative program designed to instill responsibility, confidence, and life skills in kids aged 5-19. Through a hands-on approach to agriculture, participants care for animals, build financial literacy, and learn the value of hard work and collaboration. The program operates out of a collaborative ranch space on a parcel owned by the Napa Valley Horsemen’s Association (1200 Foster Road, Napa, CA 94558) and creates a nurturing and structured environment for growth.

“While we may try to teach children all about life, the farm teaches us what life is all about.”

Ages and Animals Programs

Ag4Youth offers a tiered program based on age, starting with
children as young as five and guiding them through to young adulthood.

AGES 5 TO 8

The Pygmy Goat Program

Young participants begin their journey caring for pygmy goats. These children visit the ranch two to three times a week, where they feed, clean, and bond with their assigned goats. They also practice showmanship, learning how to present their animals with confidence.

AGES 9+

Large Animal Programs

As children grow older, they earn the opportunity to care for more challenging animals, such as steers or assigned to take on multiple animals. This progression not only builds their skills but also prepares them for financial responsibilities as they approach adulthood.

A Philosophy of Self-Led Growth

The Ag4Youth philosophy centers on empowering children through responsibility and earned rewards. Participants who show initiative—attending optional work days, helping peers, or taking on extra tasks—are rewarded with additional responsibilities and challenges, which they wear as a badge of honor. This approach creates a ripple effect, building not just individual character but also a strong, supportive community among the kids.

How to Apply

To apply for Ag4Youth, families can submit an application year-round. Applications are followed by interviews and a selection process in September, during which the board evaluates candidates based on their potential to benefit from and contribute to the program. The process is designed to ensure the program is a good fit for each participant and their family. With limited spots available each year, Ag4Youth prioritizes children and families who show a strong commitment to learning and growth.
